Dr Freya Lodge
I am a Consultant Cardiologist at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board specialising in CMR and echocardiography. I trained in CMR in Cardiff and at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. I have previously been a BCS Emerging Leader and ran the registrar teaching for the Wales deanery.
Having recently started a CMR service in our local centre, I am aware of the challenges that face many UK hospitals in developing CMR. I would be keen to build on the work that BSCMR has done already in improving access to scanning for the UK as a whole, promoting it as a test that increases diagnostic accuracy and yield, and one that can be accessed outside major centres.
I have an interest in how advanced scanning techniques and machine learning applications can support centres to optimise scan times, enhance data acquisition and improve the patient experience.
The BSCMR offers a network of talented individuals involved in CMR that enables cross-specialty collaboration, fosters a sense of shared purpose and promotes research opportunities. If elected I would seek to increase engagement in the society at all levels to develop the excellent reputation of CMR in the UK.
Finally, I hope to work with BSCMR to improve access to CMR education and training for registrars and radiographers by developing enhanced learning materials and webinars as part of the society’s online content.
