BSCMR Webinar: Cardiac MRI in Valvular Heart Disease
We are pleased to announce the next session in our educational webinar series, Cardiac MRI in Valvular Heart Disease taking place on Thursday 3rd September at 18:00 BST.
This practical and clinically focused webinar will explore the expanding role of CMR strain analysis in contemporary cardiovascular imaging, providing attendees with a clear understanding of both the underlying principles and real-world clinical applications. Led by Professor Marc Dweck and Dr Anna Barton from The University of Edinburgh, the session will cover practical aspects of obtaining high quality CMR in valvular heart disease, as well as a focused update of the literature within the field.
The session will cover the following key topics:
- Assessment of regurgitant lesions on MRI
- Assessment of stenotic lesions on MRI
- Practical tips for obtaining CMR to assess valvular heart disease
- Focused update of recent studies in aortic stenosis and other valvular heart disease
Cardiovascular magnetic resonance is increasingly used in the assessment of valvular heart disease. This webinar will equip its attendees with up-to-date skills and knowledge on how to utilise the modality to its fullest in such imaging assessments.
Professor Marc Dweck
Consultant Cardiologist and Professor of Cardiology at The Edinburgh Heart Centre and The University of Edinburgh.
Professor Marc Dweck is a Consultant Cardiologist and Professor of Cardiology at The Edinburgh Heart Centre and The University of Edinburgh. His research interests include multimodality cardiac imaging with a particular focus on novel positron emission tomography techniques, CMR, and aortic stenosis. He received his primary medical degree and PhD from The University of Edinburgh under the supervision of Professor David Newby. He sits on the board of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) and co-ordinates the association’s annual international conference.
Dr Anna Kate Barton
Final Year Cardiology Trainee, South East Scotland.
Dr Barton is a final year cardiology trainee in South East Scotland and is the current BSCMR training representative in the Scotland Deanery. She currently works at The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with a subspecialty interest in cardiac imaging and heart failure.
Her research interests include the use of cardiac MRI and positron emission tomography to determine disease activity in a range of disease states. She has undergone an imaging fellowship in Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, with a focus on CMR and cardiac computed tomography. Dr Barton received her medical degree from the University of Edinburgh in 2014 and has subsequently been awarded an MSc and PhD focused on cardiology and cardiac imaging from the same institution.
