BSCMR Webinar: Myocarditis Mapping – The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
We are pleased to announce the next session in our educational webinar series, Myocarditis Mapping – The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, taking place on Monday the 10th August at 6pm.
This clinically focused webinar will examine the role of parametric mapping in the assessment of suspected myocarditis. The session will examine how T1, T2 and extracellular volume (ECV) mapping can improve diagnostic confidence, while also highlighting the important limitations and potential pitfalls associated with these techniques.
Led by Dr Dan Sado, Dr Matt Sadler and with expert insight from Adam Millin, the webinar will provide specialist guidance into the acquisition and interpretation of parametric maps in routine clinical practice. The session aims to cover a range of key topics, including:
- Practical tips and tricks for T1, T2 and ECV mapping.
- Acquisition quality, motion correction and common technical artefacts.
- Integration of mapping findings with cine imaging, late gadolinium enhancement and the wider clinical context.
- Exploring the CMR diagnosis of myocarditis, particularly when abnormalities are borderline.
- Recognising important mimics and other causes of abnormal mapping values
Dr Matthew Sadler
Cardiology Registrar and Clinical Research Fellow at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London
Dr Matthew Sadler is a Cardiology Specialist Trainee and Clinical Research Fellow working at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London. He graduated from the University of Bristol in 2013 with an MBChB and an intercalated BSc. He subsequently undertook postgraduate medical and cardiology training across the Oxford and Kent, Surrey and Sussex deaneries, including two years working in Auckland, New Zealand.
Dr Dan Sado
Consultant Cardiologist and Clinical Lead for Cardiology at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Dr Dan Sado is an award-winning Consultant Cardiologist and Clinical Lead for Cardiology at King’s College Hospital. He also leads the hospital’s cardiac magnetic resonance imaging service and is an honorary senior lecturer within the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine at King’s College London.
Adam Millin
Superintendent Radiographer and Lead Cardiac MRI Radiographer at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Adam Millin is a Superintendent Radiographer and the Lead Cardiac MRI Radiographer at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He plays a central role in the clinical delivery of the hospital’s cardiovascular magnetic resonance service, working closely with consultant cardiologists, radiographers and other members of the multidisciplinary cardiac imaging team.
A key theme will be the risk of overcalling myocarditis in the COVID era, when heightened clinical awareness and reliance on borderline abnormalities may have contributed to overinterpretation. As parametric mapping is now embedded in routine clinical CMR practice, a clear understanding of its strengths and limitations is essential. Accurate interpretation can help clinicians deliver robust diagnoses and avoid unnecessary concern or treatment advice.
